Due to the end effect of linear electric machine, the thrust fluctuation increases significantly and the dynamic response performance decreases. This results in reduced operational stability and control efficiency. Especially in the field of high-power maglev transportation, the loss is even greater. In this paper, several main longitudinal end effects are analyzed, and their effects on the air gap magnetic field are obtained. These principles will help to build a more refined linear electric machine model later. In order to restrain or make use of these effects, some electric machine design and control schemes are proposed.
