EZ-PD(expTM) PMG1-B2 SOC Solution for USB Power Delivery (PD) Integrated 240 W Battery Charging

With the advent of USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD) technology, the consumer electronic market is shifting towards adoption of USB PD for powering the consumer gadgets and for charging the batteries in cordless appliances. The trend has further increased recently with the European Union (EU) Common Charger Directive in 2024 which mandates all new smartphones, tablets and other portable electronics sold in EU to be equipped with a USB Type-C port for charging. The solution discussed in this paper is an SOC (System-on-Chip) which provides a single-chip solution to make this possible. It enables electronic gadgets, consumer electronic items, cordless home appliances, power tools, E-scooters/bikes to be charged with a universal USB Type-C adapter with an input power contract negotiation up to 240W (48 V, 5 A) which is the used to charge up to 12S cells Lithium-ion battery packs.
