The energy efficiency of induction machines can be significantly improved in part load regime and dynamic operation by applying a suitable energy efficiency optimization algorithm. Many of these algorithms rely on a machine model. These machine models describe the machine’s behaviour on different levels of accuracy. This paper investigates the influence of the machine model on the optimization result and thus, on the energy efficient operation of the machine. A detailed machine model is introduced, and simplified variations are derived. Energy efficient trajectories are determined based on an offline optimization for the different variations. Using a simulation environment, the effects of different simplifications to the motor model are evaluated. As a result, the cost-benefit ratio between increased computation effort and better energy efficiency can be assorted.
