Turning MEMS research into market-ready products is challenging due to high infrastructure costs, complex qualification processes, and IP transfer issues. Using the start-up mechIC and its novel MEMS strain sensor as an example, we highlight key challenges and opportunities of deep-tech commercialization and share lessons learned from our transition from research to product development.
