This paper presents a novel DC-DC converter solution that utilizes Virtual Peak Current Mode (PCM) control technique in conjunction with GaN FET buck converters for a high-frequency and a high step-down conversion. The proposed control method senses the off-period inductor current from the previous cycle, which is then utilized as the present cycle current, allowing for ultra-short pulse operation. A prototype board was imple-mented with a 150V GaN FET and a developed Virtual PCM control chip. It demonstrated a pulse width of 5ns at 3MHz frequency, in 48Vin and 0.6Vout/5A. The results indicate that the proposed solution offers promising potential for a variety of non-isolated step-down applications.
