The paper will present several solutions designed to meet the EMI requirements under EN 55022 class B limit, for a 240W AC-DC adapter with USB-PD 3.1, wherein the output voltage can vary between 5V to 48V and an output current of up to 5A. The targeted power density is 28W/inc3 and the overall efficiency in the worst case at 90Vac is 95%. There are mechanical limitations regarding the size of the EMI filter to meet the proposed power density. The paper will analyze the EMI levels with a chosen EMI filter suitable to fit in a case of 70x75x28 (mm). The efficiency and EMI results are analyzed in three cases. The first case the transformer design does not use any shielding technique, the second case a traditional coper foil shield is utilized, and the third case is utilizing Rompower active shield technique. The comparison between these three implementations will be made in respect of EMI measurement, in respect of system efficiency and in respect of thermal behavior.
